Lazio are keen on bolstering their attack in the winter market and the focus is currently on Sunderland’s Jack Clarke, according to multiple reports from Italy.
The winger has impressed for the Black Cats this season, scoring 13 goals and registering three assists from 29 games in the Championship. This seems to have caught the Serie A side’s attention.
Sky Italia state the Biancocelesti have carried out the first poll to try and take him away from Sunderland. The 23-year-old’s deal lasts until 2026 and the report claims he’s valued at €15m.
Lazio making contact for Clarke is echoed by Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, who adds their ‘spotlight’ is on the Sunderland star.
Maurizio Sarri’s side have already evaluated a few profiles, including Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil, and Clarke’s name is now added to the list.
Pedullà explains that in the ‘last few hours, a negotiation was started’ with Michael Beale’s side over a potential deal to take the Englishman to Lazio. He doesn’t specify if they are looking for a loan deal [with or without a purchase option] or a permanent transfer.
That €15m figure seems fanciful to say the least, and clearly Sunderland wouldn’t sell for that. It’s not unusual for Serie A clubs to be overly optimistic about their chances of signing Championship players, and ignorant to what the cost would actually be.
