Fenerbahce president Ali Koc has spoken to Turkish TV Channel Haberturk about the possibility of signing Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

The former Germany international has been closely linked with a move to the Turkish side, but Ali Koc said it’s almost impossible for them to sign Ozil because of his current wages.

Speaking about the situation, as covered by TRT Spor, Koc insisted Ozil has to take ‘a massive wage cut’ if he’s a real Fenerbahce fan: “Ozil is earning €12m per season from Arsenal after taxes. I can easily say that we don’t have enough money to sign Ozil, it’s impossible. If Ozil is a real Fenerbahce fan, then he needs to take a massive wage cut. For now, we didn’t make any approach for him.”

Ozil hasn’t been part of Mikel Arteta’s team since the Premier League resumed last month, and it’s looking increasingly possible he will leave the Gunners this summer.

Fener looks to be an option for the former Germany international, but it seems he would have to lower his demands to play for his reported boyhood club. He’s also been linked with a move to MLS.

This season the 31 year old has made 23 appearances for the Gunners, scoring one goal and providing three assists.

His contract at the Emirates will expire at the end of June 2021.
