Daryl Janmaat has spoken to various Dutch media outlets this week and it’s clear the Watford player is an intelligent and thoughtful speaker.
Probably providing the most interesting quotes from the various Hornets out on international duty, this time Janmaat has spoken to Voetbal International and explained how the Netherlands can take some inspiration, and advice, from how Watford have been doing so far this season.
The Dutch national team face Peru in a friendly this week before a tough Nations League match against France. There’s not a lot of hope Oranje can beat the world champions, but Janmaat has explained the approach the country should be taking into the match.
“If we can be on top with Watford in the Premier League… Look at international football. Then you notice that you can make it difficult for any opponent. You need to compensate for less quality with a good plan and a good way of playing. I never see results of 6-0 or so. That means there are always opportunities, also against France.
“They have become world champion, yes, incredibly good, but did you see them during the World Cup against Australia? They won that match with good luck. Australia had a plan and a way of playing that France had difficulty with. Let that be an example for us.”
It’s not unusual for national teams to face a slump after winning the World Cup and that’s another bit of hope for the Dutch team ahead of facing Didier Deschamps’ men.
