The Daily Mirror reported on Tuesday that Manchester United and the Sweden national team are worried over Victor Lindelof’s fitness. It was explained there’s a fear of the defender being near burnout, and that’s why he’s put in some poor performances so far this season.
According to the claims, Lindelof was left out of Sweden’s Nations League match against Portugal recently due to concerns from the medical team. It was also stated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would prefer for the player to sit out the next international break, so he can have a rest.
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet have picked up on the story, and worried about the physical condition of one of their country’s stars, they contacted Stefan Pettersson, who works with the national team.
On whether there’s been any contact from the Premier League club, about the next international break, he said: “No, we have not had that. But we fully understand that clubs think this will be a huge burden. We must try to handle that.”
Further pressed on whether any clubs at all have been in contact, to try and pull their players from upcoming matches, Pettersson added: “No. They also make no demands, in which case they put forward the wishes and we have no problem with that. We listen to them, but of course we do it in the way that is best for Sweden.”
Sweden are set to face Russia in Moscow on October 8th, before matches against Croatia and Portugal.
