Everton took Robin Olsen on loan from AS Roma on deadline day of the last transfer window.
Since arriving at Goodison Park, he has made only one appearance for the Toffees and that came in his side’s 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United.
Despite limited playing time at the Merseyside club, the goalkeeper has retained his place with Sweden and has started his country’s four UEFA Nations League matches.
Janne Andersson included him in the national team squad for November’s international break, where Sweden face Denmark in a friendly tie, followed by UEFA Nations League ties against Croatia and France.
Over the weekend, the Swedish football association confirmed Olsen and four other players who represent clubs in the UK will not be allowed to travel to Denmark due to their Covid-19 travel restrictions.
“Sweden’s five national team-selected players based in England and Scotland will not be available in the training match against Denmark due to quarantine rules,” a statement read.
“The five players involved are Robin Olsen, Emil Krafth, Filip Helander, Victor Nilsson Lindelöf and Ken Sema. Due to the UK’s quarantine rules vis-à-vis Denmark, the quintet is not released by their clubs to take part in the international match against Denmark.”
Sweden’s national team manager Stefan Pettersson has made it clear that Everton have not released Olsen for the clash against Denmark, but have made him available for the matches against Croatia and France.
“If players need to be quarantined for more than five days after the international break, there is no requirement for clubs to release the players. In this case, our players are not released for the match against Denmark. However, clubs release the players for the other two games, against Croatia and France,” Pettersson said.
Meanwhile, Sweden manager Janne Andersson will self-quarantine after a “close family member” tested positive for coronavirus.
