This morning, Polish outlet Przegląd Sportowy had been speaking about the concerns the national team had for the upcoming games. One of them was regarding Aston Villa defender Jan Bednarek, who has barely played this season.
The 26-year-old made three appearances for Southampton back in August, but that’s the only time he’s had on the pitch so far, as he still couldn’t make his debut for the Villans.
It turns out that Bednarek’s situation was now a subject in the press conference held by Poland manager Czeslaw Michniewicz. The coach believes the defender’s lack of minutes at Aston Villa shouldn’t stop him from performing for the national side this month.
“There’s also a problem with Jan Bednarek, who has not played a match for over a month. Janek, however, always did well in the national team, even when he did not play for the club. I will talk to him about what he has at his disposal,” said Michniewicz (via Przegląd Sportowy).
Poland are preparing for Nations League clashes against The Netherlands and Wales in the coming days, besides being in preparation for the World Cup.
Since the move to Aston Villa on deadline day, Bednarek has been on the bench for the match against Manchester City, but then saw the game against Leicester City being postponed and wasn’t able to be in the squad for the match against his parent club Southampton.
