Speaking to the press ahead of their two friendlies against Tanzania and Iran, Algeria’s national team manager, Rabah Madjer, gave an update on Riyad Mahrez.
The Leicester star played the full 120 minutes in the Foxes’ FA Cup defeat at the hands of Chelsea, but apparently turned up injured in Alger injured.
He said: “I sent Yacine Brahimi and Mahrez to the infirmary. We’re monitoring them closely. They have a few niggles.”
However, the manager seemed optimistic about their recovery, and it appears the Leicester forward should be back in action for the club when he returns to King Power Stadium in a couple of weeks time.
Compétition, who are the ones relaying Madjer’s quotes, also did a bit of digging of their own, revealing Mahrez didn’t train with the rest of the squad on Monday.
The Algeria international apparently received a knock during the FA Cup game against Chelsea, and there’s a little bit of leftovers, meaning they’re being careful with him.
He is described as ‘uncertain’ for the friendly against Tanzania, but that doesn’t mean he won’t feature, even if just from the bench, and tests on Tuesday should give a bit more information on the matter.
