On April 5th, we carried a report from Kurier, who explained that Austria sporting director Peter Schöttel made a trip to England.
These claims were again relayed by the same newspaper today and they further explained the ÖFB [Österreichischer Fußball-Bund] chief met Manchester United inter manager Ralf Rangnick in Manchester.
It was made clear that Schöttel’s meeting with the 63-year-old was ‘not just to get advice’ from the Red Devils coach, but to ‘negotiate’ with him.
However, Kurier’s report about Austria looking to hire Rangnick as their new manager has now been quickly dismissed by Austria’s football association.
“Clarification: No meeting between ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel and Ralf Rangnick, coach of @ManUtd, occurred,” ÖFB tweeted from their official Twitter page.
Klarstellung: Es hat kein Treffen zwischen ÖFB-Sportdirektor Peter Schöttel und Ralf Rangnick, Trainer von @ManUtd, stattgefunden.

Austria are in the process of appointing a new manager after Franco Foda stepped down after failing to help them qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The latest tweet from ÖFB should put the reports of Rangnick leaving United to take the Austria job to bed, unless Kurier want to come out and insist on their story.
The former Schalke boss will be the Red Devils’ interim manager until the end of the season and should then take up a consultant role from the summer.
