When Jose Mourinho took over at Manchester United, many of the club’s fans expected, or hoped, that Marouane Fellaini wouldn’t be central to the new manager’s plans. However, Mourinho has shown a lot of faith in Fellaini, believing he can be a warrior who listens to orders and just gets about his business.
Starting for Manchester United against Swansea City, Fellaini put in a reasonable performance, and he’s been good on several occasions this season, but perhaps not quite good enough to win everybody round to Mourinho’s way of thinking.
Fellaini has long been an important member of the Belgium squad, despite the country having an awful lot of options. Previous manager Marc Wilmots showed faith in the Manchester United player, and now he’s still got a role under Roberto Martinez.
However, the Manchester United midfielder may well have to sit out Belgium’s next match, after Martinez confirmed there’s a fitness issue. Quoted by DH, the national manager said: “Fellaini and Dembele are uncertain, we will take a decision tomorrow.”
Jose Mourinho will be keeping a keen eye on proceedings and hoping his midfielder isn’t risked. So far, Martinez has seemed less likely to upset clubs over fitness, in comparison to Wilmots who at times appeared to relish it.
