Arsenal take on Inter Milan later today and Martin Ødegaard could be in contention to feature at some point in the game.
The midfielder has returned from injury and trained yesterday and this comes as a big boost to Arsenal, who have had to adapt their style in the absence of the Norwegian.
Even though the midfielder has only just returned to training, there is now a possibility that he could be set to play for his national team.
Norway boss Stale Solbakken has spoke to VG and told them Ødegaard could be called up for the upcoming international break.
He said: “We do not rule out that he will be taken out at a later stage. It’s because he has to tick a few more boxes to be and feel ready.”
Solbakken went on to say that the decision about the midfielder will be made next week.
“We follow the situation day by day. As of now, Martin is not 100% ready to play, but we are in daily contact with both him and Arsenal. Then a decision will be made on that after the weekend.”
He was also asked about whether Arsenal would prefer resting Ødegaard during the international break or not.
He responded: “We can’t start with those theories now. We are in contact with Arsenal every single day. Both we and Arsenal are interested in him recovering.”
The Gunners would ideally want their key player to be fit and firing during a crucial part of the season and him playing more games right after recovery might not be ideal.
It could well come down to handling Ødegaard’s workload and Arteta might have to slowly reintegrate him into the side instead of rushing him into the starting XI.
