On Monday we covered an article from CalcioNapoli24 on their local club’s long-standing interest in Pablo Fornals.

It was explained Napoli face a problem with the potential signing… serious competition.

The Serie A club were said to have offered the player a contract worth €1.5m (almost certainly after tax) per season on a five year deal. Arsenal were presented as one of those pushing for the player.

On Tuesday the same website says Napoli have given up, it’s thought the player may have received new ‘more advantageous’ offers. Arsenal are mentioned again, but this time their neighbours Tottenham are also pulled into the situation.

The Villarreal midfielder has a buyout clause of €26-30m so the battle is likely to come down to wages. Even Tottenham and their tight salary budget could compete with the €1.5m.

Several Premier League clubs have been linked with the player, but Tottenham aren’t one of those most often mentioned. It would make some sense for Spurs to be looking at a relatively good value fixed-price deal for a 23 year old.
