Southampton’s Wesley Hoedt has been waiting to return to Lazio in the final days of the current transfer window.

According to Lazio News 24, the centre-back has been in Rome since Friday, and was expected to carry out medical tests at the end of last week. However, it was cancelled at the last minute.

There were rumours about the possibility of the Saints defender undergoing a medical today, but the website states it’s ‘postponed again’, and there’s no mention over why it has been further delayed.

La Lazio Siamo Noi also states the Saints player will not undergo a medical today as there’s ‘mystery around Wesley Hoedt’, who’s been stuck in a hotel room.

Some Lazio fans on social media feared the Netherlands international had tested positive for Covid-19, but the report states there’s no confirmation regarding this.

Despite the ‘mystery’, Simone Inzaghi’s side, remain confident of securing the deal and plan to ‘define everything in the coming days.’ In other words, the 26-year-old will become a Lazio player ‘sooner or later’.

Hoedt is set to arrive at Stadio Olimpico on a loan deal from Southampton and Lazio will have an option to buy him for €6m.

The Serie A side, for their part, remain tight lipped and don’t give out any information regarding Hoedt’s situation. Some reports in Italy have stated Lazio need to finalise an exit before confirming the arrival.
