With one win in five games so far in the Champions League, Marseille are somehow still fighting for that third place in Group C that would get them a spot in the rest of the Europa League.
However, in order to do that, they’ll need to beat Manchester City while Olympiakos have to either draw or lose against Porto, or at least pick up one point, in which case the Portuguese have to walk away with all three points from their clash against the Greek side.
It’s a tall order, but not impossible since there isn’t a lot for Pep Guardiola’s side to play for, although Marseille’s task will be made somewhat harder by the fact they will be without their starting left-back.
In his press conference on Tuesday ahead of the game, André Villas-Boas announced Jordan Amavi will have to miss the game, saying, relayed by La Provence: “We’ve already had a little issue with Amavi. We might have to change a bit. It’s a muscular issue. We’ve got a 50/50 chance of him being there for the Monaco game”.
That will be a boost, if they even needed one, for Manchester City, who will most likely end up facing Yuto Nagatomo, who was brought in this summer on a free from Galatasaray to provide back up for the former Aston Villa man.
