Although the Portuguese media had been quiet regarding Wolverhampton Wanderers’ pursuit for manager Bruno Lage, they finally speak up today with positive news about the chase.

A few local outlets all say the coach now has the green light to complete the move, as he was able to receive a work permit from the FA on Wednesday.

Newspaper Correio da Manhã is the one with the strongest claims, claiming Lage ‘will really be’ the next Wolves boss, now that the ‘bureaucratic issues’ have been sorted.

Meanwhile, A Bola explains those issues.

They say the FA has been demanding managers to have worked in Europe’s top five leagues for the past five years, and the coach hasn’t done that. However, since he was Carlos Carvalhal’s assistant at Braga, Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea, Lage could use his history as an argument.

Newspaper O Jogo is another one sharing the same news, and they say the move is actually good for Benfica.

That’s because the Eagles had still been paying for his salary, as agreed when sacking him in June 2020, and the Wolves job will stop them from doing it.

It’s said the contract with the Premier League side is being done and he should be announced by the club ‘very soon’.
