It’s no secret Estudiantes de La Plata would like to keep Marcos Rojo for longer.

Loaned from Manchester United in January, the defender could only make one appearance for the Argentine side so far.

The deal between the clubs expires at the end of June, so Estudiantes are now trying to find a way so they can either extend the spell or get him permanently.

Sport secretary Agustin Alayes was interviewed by Infocielo this week, and talked a little about the situation they’ve been through.

“In June the contract ends and he has to return to Manchester”, said the official. “We’re in contact with the people who represent him, because we all made a great effort and we would very much like him to continue. But until the picture is clear, it’s difficult to say something concrete. “

“Any chance that Marcos continues, we will take it. It’s a little bit what he wants.”

Following his move in January, Marcos Rojo first struggled with injuries, and right after his first appearance in the loan spell, the league was stopped due to the Coronavirus crisis.

The defender’s contract with Manchester United expires in 2021.

The club are still to take action regarding the footage of him breaking lockdown to play cards and smoking with friends.
