There’s movement on Kiko Casilla potentially moving to Newcastle United this summer. As Sport Witness have been pointing out for a number of days, Real Madrid looking to offload their second choice, as they work to bring in Kepa from Athletic, presents an opportunity for Rafael Benitez.

Remembering the Newcastle United links from the summer, and how Benitez was said to be so personally keen, the jigsaw pieces fit snuggly. And now, Marca mention Newcastle directly.

The Spanish newspaper explain Casilla will likely have to find a new club, and Benitez’s side are the only possibility mentioned by name at the moment. Newcastle’s manager ‘expressly requested’ the club sign Casilla before the last window shut, but the player and Madrid were against it.

Now things have changed, and it’s explained a transfer could be ‘activated’ quickly, which presents a great opportunity for Newcastle United to get Benitez his man.

Marca don’t mention this, but perhaps there’s even the chance of Newcastle getting Casilla on an initial loan and then paying a transfer fee in the summer, a scenario which could suit the club’s current ownership situation.

Benitez’s success with Pepe Reina and getting the goalkeeper continually in the Spain squad, could be a pull for Casilla.
