Believe it or not, the transfer of Adrien Silva to Tottenham Hotspur is still a subject for the Portuguese newspapers in the last days of the transfer window.

O Jogo has a story today saying it’s likely that the midfielder will leave the club along with William Carvalho. That’s the wish of Sporting, manager Jorge Jesus, and Adrien Silva himself.

The player has been looking for a way out of the Alvalade for a long time now, and had a move to Leicester City blocked exactly one year ago. Tottenham has been the favoured destination for the Portuguese press this year, even if the reports haven’t felt especially concrete.

O Jogo claims there are many clubs interested, but no multiple offers so far. The only bid this summer came from Tottenham Hotspur, who wanted to pay €20m, but that obviously wasn’t enough to convince Sporting.

Sporting are said to be ‘intensifying’ their contacts to sell their captain before the end of the transfer window, but it seems they would have to accept much less money than they expected.

Adrien Silva has a €45m release clause. If Tottenham’s €20m offer was genuine, it’s looking more attractive right now.
