If the Daily Mail are to be believed on Thursday, Celtic are in for a tough fight if they wish to sign Henry Onyekuru from KAS Eupen in the summer.

Brendan Rodgers’ side made it quite clear during the January transfer window they were interested in the young Nigerian, offering around €1.5m for his services.

Unfortunately for Celtic, Eupen valued their starlet a bit more than that, and, according to Belgian reports, asked for around double that.

The player then decided to go on strike to try and force a move to Celtic, to no avail, as he is now finishing the season in Belgium, and playing an integral part in their playoff campaign.

However, the Daily Mail claims that Liverpool, Southampton and Bournemouth are also all interested in Onyekuru after being spotted scouting him.

This isn’t the first time Liverpool have been linked, with RTBF in Belgium claiming Jürgen Klopp was already keen on the 19-year-old back in January.

This isn’t exactly great news for Celtic, whose Champions League advantage can only go so far, as Premier League football tends to be more attractive to most players than that of the Scottish Premiership.

Yet, the way things have gone for Moussa Dembélé this season has certainly shown that a move to Celtic Park can be extremely beneficial for a young player trying to gain attention at a higher level.

There’ still hope for Celtic, but it’s very quickly fading.
