Even though José Mourinho couldn’t manage to win a Premier League title with Manchester United, he repeatedly talks about how proud he is over the job done at the Red Devils.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager seems to have some special affection for 2017/18 season, when they were runners-up, and called it one of the biggest achievements of his illustrios career.

Well, it looks like that campaign is something that stayed marked in Mourinho’s inner circle. Because as coach Ricardo Formosinho was interviewed by newspaper Record this weekend, he brought this subject back.

The assistant, who left Mourinho’s staff at Tottenham this year, was simply asked if other Premier League managers still look at the Special One in a different way to others.

Then he suddenly opened up about their time at Old Trafford.

“Yes, because he’s unique. And that of the lesser success at Manchester United, for example, is very relative, as is easily proven by facts,” Formosinho told Record.

“We weren’t champions, it’s true, but we won the Europa League, the League Cup, the Super Cup and, in a fight with a Manchester City, who did not fulfil, as proved later, the financial fair play, we were runners-up, at a time when, having sporting truth, we would’ve been champions.

“People may ask why he’s the best. I answer that because he thinks faster and comes up with solutions faster. When talking about the growth of others at the tactical level, he goes far ahead strategically. He’s different for the better. I’d even say much better.”

Manchester City won the 2017/18 Premier League with 100 points, while Manchester United could only get 81, quite some distance.

Nevertheless, Formosinho is clearly of the belief Pep Guardiola’s side had an unfair advantage, and that may be a sign that Mourinho feels the same way.
