Jose Mourinho pushed Manchester United to do everything they could this summer to get a renewal sorted out for Marouane Fellaini.

Despite the midfielder not being a favourite for the Premier League club’s fans, he certainly is for the manager and therefore extra efforts were made to come to an agreement.

Fellaini was well aware of the privileged situation he found himself him and intended to use it to his advantage, saying as much in interviews with the Belgian media. Interest from elsewhere was played up to be more than it probably ever was, at least for some of the clubs concerned, and it seemed like the player was being offered around.

When that didn’t end up with anything better for Fellaini himself, he renewed with Manchester United and Mourinho got his way.

The 30 year old has made four appearances so far this season, three of those as a substitute, and now finds himself in the Belgium squad on international duty.

However there’s an injury worry, reports HLN and other Belgium newspapers, with Roberto Martinez confirming the player is under observation: “There are some worries around Benteke’s knee, but we also watch Chadli, Mignolet and Fellaini.”

There’s no further explanation of what the issue is, and Mourinho will be concerned.
