One of the areas Jose Mourinho wanted to strengthen in the summer transfer window was the centre-back position, but Manchester United were unsuccessful in fulfilling their manager’s demands.
A handful of players who play in the heart of the defence were linked with a move to Old Trafford and the list includes Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan.
The Slovakian international even talked about the Red Devils’ summer interest in securing his services, but he never considered making a move away from the San Siro.
Former England coach Fabio Capello has appeared on Sky Italia’s ‘Sky Calcio Live’ and revealed the 20-time English manager wanted to bring in two new defenders to the club before the start of the season, and one of them was the Nerazzurri player.
“This summer at a meeting of the coaches, I met Mourinho. He was looking for two defenders: one was Skriniar and the other was Koulibaly…” the Italian was quoted as saying by Calciomercato.
If rumours are to be believed, it looks like Mourinho has never given up on bringing Skriniar to Manchester United as another report from Calciomercato claims the Premier League club could make an approach for the player in January.
Inter, on the other hand, are not worried about this as they believe the manager is losing strength at his club and his employer is unlikely to back him in signing the Serie A defender.
