Despite Antonio Valencia extending his contract for an extra season after some impressive performances under José Mourinho, the future at the right-back position will be something Manchester United are thinking about, and they might have recently played against an ideal successor.

According to So Foot in France, the Red Devils were impressed by Kevin Malcuit during their two Europa League games, and José Mourinho is said to have already asked his scouts to keep an eye on the player to get a few more details.

The news was picked up by most outlets in France, as the story is quite a big one, but it seems the reports actually stem from a tweet by Beyond The Pitch host Pilip de Brún on Saturday.

It seems the Portuguese manager is simply keeping his options open, as Matteo Darmian doesn’t appear to be the number one candidate for the role once Valencia leaves/retires.

Recently on the receiving end of two offers from West Ham in January for their star right-back, it appears Saint-Etienne might have to fend off bigger customers in the summer, which could prove difficult.

The 25-year-old has made 28 appearances for the Ligue 1 side this season in all competitions, picking up four assists along the way.
