Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has reminded the club’s owners he needs a right-back, with Real Betis and Barcelona full-back Emerson the man he wants.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Brazilian was a target for Spurs last summer, but a deal couldn’t be done due to financial reasons.

They explain that Emerson is ‘one of the players’ that Mourinho ‘has requested’ from Tottenham this summer as he looks to overhaul his squad.

He wanted the defender last summer, but the operation could not be carried out due to the global economic crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Portuguese coach, though, has ‘reminded his leaders’ that he needs a right-back like the Brazilian – in other words, try to get him again.

Tottenham are not the only suitors, though. PSG, Bayer Leverkusen, both Inter Milan and AC Milan have showed an interest. Bologna are also keen if reports in Italy are to be believed.

Whether Barcelona decide to sell remains to be seen. Ronald Koeman is a fan of the player, but his future at the club is far from certain, and the financial needs at the club ‘invite a sale’.

There’s no mention of an asking price from the newspaper, but last summer, Barcelona wanted €30-32m to ‘obtain profitability’, so that could be something they aim for once again.
