There are endless takes in the Spanish media this weekend on Gareth Bale’s situation at Tottenham Hotspur, following Jose Mourinho’s frank comments.
The Spurs boss was clearly annoyed with an Instagram post from Bale’s official account which contradicted his stance on the player’s fitness. Rather than hide from the situation, he tackled it head on and it’s seen claims of conflict between the pair.
Spanish newspaper AS report Mourinho has decided not to be overly protective with Bale.
AS contrast this with Wales managers, including Ryan Giggs, pushing the player away from any serious scrutiny, and it’s stated the Tottenham boss ‘has not wanted to be a participant in that game’.
It’s stated that this harsh stance is stronger than anything which happened at Real Madrid, and it’s all because Mourinho is protecting himself.
According to the Spanish report, the manager pushed hard for Daniel Levy to make the financial effort to cover a chunk of Bales’ wages, and with the transfer failing he ‘does not want to sink with that ship’ so is happy to pass all the blame to the player and make a break between the two.
AS believe the ‘fiasco’ of Bale’s signing threatens to cause wider issues, and Mourinho is trying to avoid being one of those damaged by the situation.
