Following the announcement that José Mourinho would be taking over from Paulo Fonseca at the end of the season at Roma, the Italian media have gone a bit crazy.
It was only a matter of time, but Tottenham players are already being linked with a move that would see them reunited with the Portuguese manager in Rome.
Among those, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, are Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
The two players are said to be written ‘in red pencil in Mourinho’s notebook’, with the former described as a ‘central defender entrusted with the build up from the back’, while the Dane is seen as the ‘barometer in front of the defence’.
The belief is that Mourinho ‘could ask Roma to make an economic effort to go and get him’ in order to ‘give balance to the team in the middle of the pitch’.
Carlos Vinicius is also mentioned, but he isn’t Tottenham’s property these days, with it highly unlikely that Daniel Levy will trigger the expensive purchase clause in his loan from Benfica.
Basically, it’s Dier and Højbjerg that Mourinho would like to bring with him, but seeing the London club part ways with them in the summer, especially to a club where the recently sacked manager has just gone to, would be surprising.
