Lucas Bergvall arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, months after Spurs agreed a deal with Djurgårdens IF Fotboll. The midfielder made three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.
Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has included the 18-year-old in the squad to face Azerbaijan and Estonia in the UEFA Nations League this month.
Göteborgs-Posten interviewed the 18-year-old and one of the topics discussed was about his time at Tottenham so far.
Despite playing 31 minutes from three games for Spurs, Ange Postecoglou has praised the youngster.
The Sweden international is pleased with the manager’s public words but wants to focus on further improving his game.
“It’s nice to be praised, of course. To be told that what you’re doing is good, but at the same time it’s also a motivation to get even better. There are always things I can improve on,” he said.
The teenager was aware that a move from Djurgårdens to Tottenham would be a huge step. However, he has only realised this after arriving at the north London club.
When asked if there’s anything he has come across that he didn’t expect, Bergavll explained: “No, I wouldn’t say that. It’s more generally how professional everything is there. Everything is a step better, which maybe you could expect but didn’t really realise.”
As well as Postecoglou, the English media and Tottenham fans have praised the Swede.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Bergvall said he’s pleased to have adapted quickly at Spurs.
“It feels good [to be praised]. It’s incredibly nice and I feel like I’ve settled into the team well. I have been given confidence by the coaches and it feels like I have adapted well these weeks,” he added.
“It’s a big step and a big difference between two good leagues is pace and physicality. Then there is the game, where there is more quality on the pitch. It’s been tough, but I’ve started well after pre-season. I’ve had three substitute appearances and will continue from there.”
