Antonio Rüdiger is one of those to have benefited the most from Chelsea’s decision to sack Frank Lampard and appoint Thomas Tuchel as his successor in January.
The defender was included in Lampard’s plans at Stamford Bridge after he failed to get a move away last summer, but was then restricted to only one league appearance in the first half of the season.
Earlier this week, the Germany international detailed how close he came to leaving the club as both Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur wanted him.
The 28-year-old is currently enjoying life under Tuchel and admitted his priority is to continue at Chelsea. In Rüdiger’s last 10 appearances, his side have conceded only two goals.
His current deal expires in 2022 and reports in England have stated the London club want to talk about an extension with the player.
Therefore, Tuchel’s side will finish the season ‘without any clarity’ regarding the former AS Roma man’s future.
It’s claimed the German defender should be ready to hold contract talks with Chelsea after the European championship and he can ‘very well imagine staying’ at the club.
However, he has ‘not forgotten’ the treatment he received from Lampard, who demoted him, and Rüdiger had ‘no clear backing’ from Chelsea.
