Spanish newspaper AS have a headline on Tuesday afternoon which shouts ‘Everybody loves Fabian’, in relation to Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz.
The player has been linked with multiple clubs in recent weeks, with Newcastle United one of the sides pushed forward the most. There’s thought to be building interest in the Premier League, and AS believe Eddie Howe’s side got in there first with a January offer.
Ruiz currently earns less than €2m, after tax, a season at Napoli and hasn’t extended his contract since joining. His current deal expires in June 2023, and that puts some doubt around the player’s future.
Should Napoli not be able to get a renewal then they’ll need to sell this summer if they want to avoid the real chance of a free transfer.
AS say Newcastle offered to triple Ruiz’s salary in the winter market, yet that wasn’t enough, with it explained ‘money is not his priority’.
It’s no surprise AS believe he’d prefer a move to a big La Liga club, but that could be tested should the Magpies start assembling an impressive squad in the coming months, and move again for Ruiz.
Newcastle United strong and secure in the Premier League, and adding further stars, is a far different prospect to what the Magpies were in January.
