Top of the Premier League, European champions, world champions and a squad full of talent, it’s fair to say it’s all going well at Liverpool.

Most of the praise has been handed to Jürgen Klopp, with the German seen as the mastermind behind the Reds transformation into a dominant force once more.

Klopp, though, will tell you otherwise. Ask him and there’s one man who has been instrumental to Liverpool’s return to the top; Michael Edwards.

The Sporting Director has been instrumental in Liverpool’s transfer dealings under Klopp, and it’s fair to say he’s done an excellent job of it.

So much so, his work is now receiving recognition in Europe, particularly in Spain and Mundo Deportivo, who call him ‘the Monchi of Liverpool’.

They take a look at his work and explain in detail just how good a job Edwards is doing when you compare the prices Liverpool pay compared to the money they receive.

For example, Liverpool have just paid €8.5m for striker Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg and ‘considering his projection’ that’s a ‘masterstroke’ given Liverpool sold Ryan Kent, a player with no future at Anfield, to Rangers for the same price.

There’s plenty of examples of such good business. For example, the likes of Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Minamino will cost the same as the sale of Kent, Danny Ward, Dominic Solanke, Andre Wisdom and Kevin Stewart.

That’s a sale of players Liverpool didn’t want for €50m, to fund players they not only wanted but two of whom are now stars of the current successful side.

Most players signed under Edwards have ‘multiplied their market value’, and as a result, Liverpool have a team that ‘fights for everything’.

With the Champions League under their belt, and a Premier League title ‘at their fingertips’, Mundo say Edwards has ‘little to envy’ when it comes to fellow transfer guru Monchi.
