After two days of relatively positive news for Arsenal fans regarding their club’s chase of AS Roma’s Monchi, Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday try and calm things down.
While they are successful in their endeavour, they can’t fully stop the story in its tracks, as everyone knows there’s no smoke without fire.
The bottom line of the story is: everything is ‘quiet’ in Rome for now.
Despite multiple claims that the Gunners are prepared to trigger the Spaniard’s €3m release clause, the Serie A side haven’t received any official contacts, but they also ‘aren’t ignoring’ the signs.
Monchi himself hasn’t discussed a potential exit, though that hasn’t stopped those in charge at Roma to prepare for the worst case scenario: his exit.
As things stand, it will either be for Arsenal’s director of football job or Sevilla’s presidency, and the Italians are left with two options: either promote from within or find someone on the market/at another club.
Various options are listed, such as trusting Federico Balzaretti with a more demanding job or plucking Piero Ausilio from Inter.
Either way, all this talk has Roma a little bit worried, even if they aren’t ready to publicly show it just yet.
That will undoubtedly happen if Arsenal come knocking with the aforementioned €3m.
