Said to want Everton above all after being convinced by Carlo Ancelotti, Abdoulaye Doucouré has a second option if that one doesn’t work out.

Well, it’s not guaranteed since we don’t know whether Watford are going to accept the offer, but French journalist Manu Lonjon has claimed that AS Monaco have bid €25m for the French midfielder.

That’s all we get, which is already a decent amount, but it shows the continued ambition the principality club have, having appointed Niko Kovać this summer to turn things around after a very disappointing season by their standards.

They have money, and they seem intent on taking advantage of Watford’s position following their relegation back to the Championship and Doucouré’s reluctance to play second-tier football.

Everton were reportedly in the mix, having found an ‘agreement’ the midfielder, but the two sides still don’t appear to have shaken hands over a transfer fee.

It’s no surprise to see Watford being reluctant to let their stars go for peanuts, and we’ll now have to wait and see if €25m is enough for them, as that’s what Monaco have put on their desk.

It’s then up to Doucouré himself, but we’d be surprised if he decided on a return to Ligue 1 instead of a possible stay in the Premier League at the Goodison Park club if that was the choice in front of him.
