New Liverpool star Luis Diaz has been hailed by former Colombia star Jackson Martinez, who says the player is like ‘a child’ trying to enjoy every moment as much as possible.
Diaz joined Liverpool in a £40.5m deal from Porto in the January transfer window, with the Reds moving quickly to tie up something of a bargain deal as a result of the Portuguese side’s financial issues.
He’s proven to be an instant hit at Anfield, with a series of scintillating displays getting fans and pundits alike very excited.
The forward has very much continued where he left off in Portugal after a two-year spell with Porto that saw him score 41 goals and register 19 assists in 125 games.
Diaz was very much the star of the show at the Estádio do Dragão, and there is a growing belief he could be a future Liverpool star as well.
Martinez is certainly confident of that happening, saying both Liverpool and Colombia should ‘take advantage’ of Diaz in the coming months and years.
“I admire Luis Diaz for his commitment,” he told AS.
“I want him to keep focused as he is because he is a very talented player; he has assists, goals and has a lot of commitment in defence, which is vital at this time; he has a great tactical commitment.
“Porto was a pillar for him in terms of his development; he grew and grew until we saw a Luis Diaz who had some impressive displays. I think the national team should enjoy him and take advantage of him.
“If he continues to focus, he is going to be one of the most historic players in the national team without fear of being wrong and without unforeseen injuries.
“At the moment I see him as a child who wants to enjoy something he has, Klopp has said it several times, the joy and simplicity that he has encompasses the Colombian people.”
