James Rodriguez swapped Everton for Al-Rayyan SC last week, moving from being managed by Rafa Benitez to Laurent Blanc.

The Colombian is by far the biggest star of the show at his new club, just like he was at Everton, but he may not be the only widely known name to arrive before the Qatari window closes.

After securing the player from Everton, Al-Rayyan SC and Blanc are now thought to be trying to sign Steven Nzonzi to further strengthen their team. He has a contract with AS Roma until June of next year, and in Italy’s it’s thought his move could ease the route to signing Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.

The Brazilian has repeatedly been linked with a move to Roma, and Calciomercato say Jose Mourinho plans a ‘mini-revolution’, with Nzonzi going, and the Aston Villa player being the manager’s ‘main goal’.

There’s no absolute clarity on which transfer window this is looking towards but with Mourinho wanting signings in soon, the assumption would be it’s January.

Whilst Roma have longed been linked with Luiz, the idea has often faltered when it’s been realised Aston Villa’s asking price would be much higher than what the Serie A club would want to pay.
