On Tuesday morning, West Ham’s interest in Carlos Bacca was made as official as it can be in England when the BBC reported the clubs had entered talks over the Colombian striker.
This came after a few weeks of reports in the Italian media that the Hammers’ interest in the AC Milan striker had gone to a new level after their failures at convincing Lyon to sell Alexandre Lacazette and Marseille with Michy Batshuayi.
Corriere, not wanting to be outdone, it seems, take it one step further by claiming a fee between the two clubs has already been agreed: €27m + €3m in bonuses (£22.7m + £2.5m).
West Ham are looking for a new striker to unveil at the Olympic Stadium, and to take them beyond the 7th spot they managed to achieve last season.
The Italian newspaper claim all that is left to do is for Bacca’s agent to give the green light, meaning his client and himself are happy with the contractual offer made by the London club for his services.
Considering AC Milan paid £25.5m for the player last summer, a combined fee of £25.2m isn’t bad for the Italian side, especially with Bacca nearing his 30th birthday (8th of September).
Some would argue it’s a hefty fee for a player of his age, but with three years left on his contract and an average of a goal every two games throughout his career, it could be a lot worse.
Especially when all you’re looking for is a player capable of putting Payet’s passes into the back of the net…
