Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara has been urged to avoid signing for Aston Villa this summer as he should be playing for a Champions League club.
That’s according to journalist Walid Acherchour, who believes the highly-rated midfielder should be aiming higher than Steven Gerrard’s side.
Kamara has established himself as a key player for Marseille in the last few years, with a series of impressive performances for the French side in Ligue 1.
He’s earned himself plenty of admirers as a result, particularly ahead of this summer, with his contract set to expire and thus make him available on a free transfer.
Aston Villa have emerged as strong contenders for his signature in the last few months, with them keen to keep rebuilding the squad Gerrard inherited from Dean Smith.
Strengthening the midfield is believed to be one of his targets, especially as Douglas Luiz has been linked with a move away from Villa Park.
Acherchour believes the midfielder should be aiming higher, though; otherwise, there is no point in him leaving France this summer if it is just to end up like Morgan Sanson,.
“If Boubacar Kamara should stay at OM? I am divided. He must leave, but it depends where,” Foot Radio report him saying.
“I think he should go to a club in the European top 12 or top 14. But if it’s to go to Aston Villa, Watford or Everton, I prefer that he stays at OM, especially if they go to the Champions League.
“But if you explain to me that he is going to Sevilla in the role of Fernando, or to Napoli, in this kind of playing team where he will have a coach who will trust him, where he will be a starter, I say why not.
“There will be more room at AC Milan, for example, with the departure of Kessie, Borussia Dortmund… These kinds of teams, yes.
“But if it’s to go and bury himself and take big wages like Bruno Guimaraes, like Morgan Sanson… There are plenty of examples of midfielders from Ligue 1 who left for the Premier League, and I do not think they have made the right choice.”
