One of the many midfielders linked with West Ham this summer, Joan Jordan eventually decided he wanted to stay in Spain and moved to Sevilla.
Swapping SD Eibar for the Europa League bound club, the 24-year-old appeared to favour a comfortable move in a league he knows well than try something new abroad, and few can blame him, especially if he gets European football out of it too.
Well, West Ham fans can blame him, but the midfielder revealed the reasoning behind his decision on Friday, in quotes relayed by Mundo Deportivo.
He said: “I had other offers (than Sevilla’s), some from abroad with a lot more money, but I’ve always said that I value a lot of things, and not just money. From Sevilla’s first serious call, both my agents and I valued it strongly.
“It’s an option I really liked, and when they started making moves, I said that I wanted to come and here I am. I’m thankful to Eibar for all they did. I spoke with them and they knew I wanted to come here and we all needed to all make an effort. I made it clear that either I came to Sevilla or I came to Sevilla.”
From those words, it’s pretty clear moving to London Stadium and the Premier League was never really an option for Jordan, although he could simply have been saying all the right things for his new fans.
After all, the last thing he needs to be saying right now is how tempting a move to West Ham would have been.
The Catalan newspaper say he ‘rejected a proposal’ from the Hammers.
