It’s been a while since we’ve heard about Giannelli Imbula, since he isn’t playing for Stoke City and few clubs have taken an interest in his services this summer.
The former Marseille and Porto midfielder has struggled to really impress anywhere since leaving France, which has made it very difficult for the Championship side to move him on.
A bunch of loan moves haven’t helped all that much, and it’s now becoming a case of whoever wants him can have him.
Down his end, Imbula is also looking for a way out, as he explained to RMC Sport in France on Wednesday evening.
He said: “I’m still at Stoke. I started training back on July 1st. We agreed I would train with the U23s. I’m waiting for a medium to long term project to try and restart my career and find the same pleasure I had in Spain last year.”
Asked whether or not he would consider returning to France where he first made a name for himself at Guingamp and then Marseille, the midfielder said he didn’t have any preference.
He explained: “I follow French football. It interests me. I’m open to all projects. There are contacts with some clubs”.
While he claimed not having any particular regrets, the player did admit one thing.
He said: “These days I have a bit more experience. I probably should have thought more about certain things, but it’s in the past. The worst choice of my career was to come to Stoke. I could have been more patient at Porto, try to adapt to the league.
“The most regrettable choice is probably the Stoke one. It’s in the past now, so I don’t want to talk about it anymore”.
