While Flamengo haven’t taken a final decision on the purchase of Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira, it seems the midfielder would still have a chance at the Premier League side if he returns to England.
This information was brought at the weekend by TNT Sports in Brazil. It was claimed that the player received a call from Red Devils’ director John Murtough, who said the club ‘count on him’ for the next season.
That’s a surprise, and this could be a case of the player’s camp hyping up how his parent club really think of him. It wouldn’t be the first time.
Regardless of that, it’s said Manchester United will honour the deal they have with Flamengo. So in case the Rio de Janeiro side pay €10m for the permanent move, Andreas is staying in Brazil.
The South American giants still have a couple of months to take that decision. Since Pereira recently lost his starting spot in the team, it’s becoming unlikely that they’ll make that investment in the player.
The midfielder’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2023, with an option to renew it for an extra season. TNT Sports points out that he worked with Erik ten Hag when the coach was an assistant at PSV.
