On December 1st, reports came from Belgium that Leicester City had agreed a fee to sign Wilfred Ndidi from Genk. At the time it was stated Leicester would pay €17.7m in a deal that could rise to €22m.
Het Nieuwsblad reiterate that on Monday, but also say Ndidi has skipped Genk training today to travel to England and visit the Leicester facilities. He’s ‘undergone all his medical tests’ and will join Claudio Ranieri’s squad in the January transfer window.
Genk still have important football coming up, and it’s already been suggested in Belgium that Ndidi hasn’t been quite his usual self. Quite what will happen now is anyone’s guess, with Genk expecting to get the most out of one of their star players, and Ndidi obviously conscious, as anyone would be, that an injury could wreck his dream move to the Premier League.
The transfer money is welcomed by Genk, and it’s a huge amount for the Belgian club, who have perhaps sold players too cheaply previously. Ndidi may well draw a line in the sand for any further recruitment from Belgium… it won’t come as cheap as it sometimes has previously.
