Around ten days ago we covered claims from Belgium that Aston Villa were seriously looking at signing Marvelous Nakamba.

The newly promoted Premier League club were said to be growing weary in their chase for Kalvin Phillips, with Leeds United trying their best to hold on to the player.

That led Villa to turn their attention back to Club Brugge, a club they’d recently signed Wesley Moraes from for €25m. The contacts would already be in place, the deal for the Brazilian was relatively straightforward, and therefore it made sense to look at Nakamba.

Several offers were said to have arrived for the player, although not from Aston Villa, and one of the clubs providing competition was Atalanta, who will play in the Champions League next season.

Today’s edition of HLN, the Belgian newspaper which brought the original claims, states Villa’s interest hasn’t led to a transfer. Whilst that’s obvious, the insinuation would be it doesn’t look like they’ll get it over the line, not at this stage anyway.

Nakamba is left ‘frustrated’ with the situation, he wants a transfer. Another interested club, FC Koln, have been in talks for weeks, without managing to get anywhere.

Club Brugge want €7m, which should be no problem for Aston Villa, but it’s stated interested parties feel that’s too high a figure for a midfielder who spent a lot of time on the bench last season.
