As Aston Villa fans certainly hope the club can complete the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho this summer, it seems there could actually be another South American talented midfielder who would be an option on the market.
We’re talking about James Rodriguez, who today is pointed out by the Spanish media as an option for Steven Gerrard’s side.
Outlet Fichajes features a story claiming the Colombian player no longer wants to play in Qatar, where he joined Al-Rayyan last summer, and is looking forward to moving back to Europe’s best leagues.
Fichajes claims that paying €40m for Coutinho ‘seems quite complicated’ for Aston Villa, which would force them to look for other options in the market.
So Rodriguez is said to be a ‘low cost’ option for them.
It seems clear the report is going for a long shot here, since Rodriguez is about to turn 31 and was nearly forgotten in the year he’s spending in Qatar.
Still, he could turn out to be an interesting alternative for Premier League side, at least for those who liked what he did when featuring for Everton last season.
