Nampalys Mendy put his Bordeaux cards on the table in June, explaining the idea of a move to the French club had left him obsessed.
Speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe, the Leicester City midfielder explained: “Since my agent told me about the possibility to join Bordeaux, I’ve been fixated on that. If I return to France, it’ll be Bordeaux or nothing. I’m now hoping to join Les Girondins quickly. It’s even an obsession.”
It was a come-and-get-me-plea taken to extremes, but Bordeaux weren’t panicked into action. The club had other transfer priorities, and whilst Mendy popped up every now and again in the club’s transfer stories, it didn’t seem like there was an effort imminent.
The major problem is Leicester City’s terms, with the Premier League club favouring a permanent transfer over a loan.
Bordeaux seem to have accepted that and moved on, regardless of Mendy doing the public begging.
L’Equipe say Mendy will now ‘very quickly’ hold a meeting with Leicester City to put his case forward, and argue for a loan. But, if Bordeaux clearly can’t be bothered to make much of an effort, Leicester may wonder why they should.
