Earlier this year, back when the transfer window was in its early stages, Crystal Palace and Southampton were reportedly interested in Soualiho Meïté.
The midfielder, currently contracted to Torino, was said to be on his way out, with intermediaries reportedly ‘paving the way’ for talks.
Both Palace and the Saints were reportedly presented with a chance to sign the player, but neither took it, perhaps because there was still a lot of football to play in the Premier League, and their priorities were elsewhere.
Well, fast forward to Tuesday, and it appears the Eagles have dropped out, leaving Southampton as the sole Premier League club interested in the Frenchman.
That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting, explaining that while ‘the chances of a departure from Meïté are almost reduced to zero’, the midfielder has ‘entered Southampton’s radar’.
Either way, it seems Ralph Hasenhüttl still has an eye on the 26-year-old, but they’ll have to be very, very convincing to change Torino’s mind.
