Currently trying to qualify for the Europa League, Slovakian side AS Trencin pulled off one of the bigger upsets of the 3rd round by trouncing Feyenoord 4-0.

In that winning team was Aschraf El Mahdioui, who has recently been cast into the spotlight after Elf Voetbal linked him with Manchester City, who were said to be keeping an eye on him.

Now unable to recruit, this would have to wait until January should Pep Guardiola’s side make a move, and, speaking to the same outlet following the game, the defensive midfielder revealed he’d be open to the move, and confirmed the Cityzens’ are after him.

He said: “It is true there is interest, and I certainly have my ambitions. I would like to play in a more appealing competition, but if we beat Feyenoord and then qualify for the group stages of the Europa League, I’ll be happy here”.

Leaving Holland for Slovakia last summer on a free transfer, El Mahdioui also wouldn’t be against a return to the Eredivisie.

There’s every chance Manchester City could make a move for him and then loan him out to NAC Breda, their affiliate club, which would allow him to make a step up in his career and play in a league he already knows to progress all in one go.
