Perhaps surprisingly, Miralem Pjanić is finding himself at the centre of the transfer rumour mill’s attention this summer despite being a regular feature under Maurizio Sarri.
Starting more than three quarters of Juventus’ Serie A games, the Bosnia & Herzegovina international scored three league goals and assisted another four, yet this could be his last season in Turin.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the player is ‘ready to say goodbye’ to Italy after four years at Juventus, but luckily for him, he has suitors scattered around Europe, including England with Chelsea.
The Blues’ interest in Pjanić is rather long-standing, with articles dating back to 2018 claiming a move to Stamford Bridge could be a reality for the playmaker, but this is one of the first times where it feels like it could actually happen.
Perhaps not to London, but there’s been a lot of whispers in the Italian press an exit was on the cards, and Gazzetta explain Barcelona would be the ideal landing spot for the former Lyon starlet, and there have been reports in Spain of a deal involving Pjanić + De Sciglio + €25m equalling in order for Nélson Semedo going the other way.
The Italian newspaper calls that ‘Fantamercato’, suggesting it’s poppycock, and explain Juventus ‘only want’ Arthur if they were to pick someone from the Catalans’ squad.
Basically, the idea in getting rid of Pjanić would be to get another midfielder in in exchange, and the Blues have the ‘ace in the hole’ with Jorginho, whom we all know is a favourite of Sarri’s.
As for Paris Saint-Germain, they could offer Leandro Paredes, but we all know who the former Chelsea manager would prefer if he had to choose between the Italy international and his Argentinian counterpart.
There’s no real suggestions a deal between Juventus and Chelsea could take place for now, but it’s made very clear the Stamford Bridge side are keen on Pjanić were he to be made available.
And if they do, they will know exactly who to offer to sweeten the deal.
