After being heavily linked with a return to Brazil, Middlesbrough left-back Fabio da Silva continues to be in the rumour mill.
It’s now the Portuguese press saying he’s up for grabs in this transfer window, and Sporting CP are considering a move.
According to Record today, although the Lions have some other priorities in the market, Fabio’s situation at Middlesbrough is being followed closely by the club.
Sporting’s idea would be to convince the player to break his contract with Boro so he could be available to sign for free.
Fabio got a good amount of game time last season, with 30 appearances for the club, but seems not to be so keen on playing the Championship again.
Earlier this month, the Brazilian media said Fabio was being offered to local sides including Cruzeiro and Palmeiras. The Cruzeiro president even confirmed this situation publicly, saying the player was ‘crazy’ about going back to the country, but Middlesbrough want him to stay.
With Fabio having another year of contract left, it’s unlikely Middlesbrough will let him join Sporting on a free transfer.
