Middlesbrough star Marten de Roon made his debut for Netherlands last night in a 3-1 win over Luxembourg.
The 25-year-old was called up for the national team after his impressive performances for the Premier League side.
Shortly after the game, de Roon was speaking to the media (via NU), and described his feelings after making his debut for the national team.
He said: “There a shiver that went through my body. Partly due to the bad pitch it was difficult to be there in those few minutes right away.
“My heart was in my throat, but that didn’t matter. As short as it was, it went pretty good.“
De Roon announced himself in England after scoring against Manchester City in a 1-1 draw, and the Middlesbrough star insists other players have started to recognise him now.
He added: “That was big in the news. It was nice to be on the front pages in Britain. Players will instantly have recognised me therefore, haha.”
The 25-year-old made a €15m switch from Atalanta this summer, and has been in focus in the last few days.
De Roon would certainly be hoping to keep up the momentum, and earn more caps for the Netherlands after his debut last night.
