It’s only been one week since Aitor Karanka was sacked by Middlesbrough and replaced by Steve Agnew, but it’s already time for him to be considered for another job.
After a difficult time with some Middlesbrough players, with Stewart Downing receiving some blame, not to mention Gaston Ramirez’s January shenanigans, it may be considered Karanka could take a break.
But according to Spanish newspaper Sport, Valencia are thinking of four names to take charge at the end of the season, as Voro has already said he only wants to be a temporary solution. The managers being considered by the board would be Curro Torres, Quique Setién, Marcelino García Toral and Aitor Karanka.
Karanka is said to be wanted by the owner Peter Lim, who trusts him for the future. If the move happened, it would see the manager reunited with Alvaro Negredo in the summer, with Middlesbrough unlikely to use their buying clause.
Valencia are a big club and there’s no doubt it’s a good opportunity for many European managers. However, things have gone far from expected since Peter Lim’s takeover.
Sport claims that there’s no priority list for now. The club would be deciding if they should bet on one of their former players or a young manager.
Managing a big La Liga club would certainly be a prestigious move for Karanka, but after his Middlesbrough experience it could be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire.
