Earlier on Tuesday, we covered a story from Spain covering Middlesbrough’s apparent interest in Cádiz left midfielder Álvaro García.

The 24-year-old emerged as a relatively surprising target for Aitor Karanka’s side, who will be looking for quality players to bolster his squad for the second half of the season, and Cádiz’s director of football, Juan Carlos Cordero, made it very clear the player wasn’t for sale.

Of course, were Boro to pay García’s release clause, which currently stands at €6m, and the midfielder made it clear he wanted to leave, then things could be different.

However, with neither of those things happening so far, no transfer is on the cards, and, in fact, even Middlesbrough are surprised about this story, as reported by La Voz Digital on Tuesday afternoon.

The website claim the club, according to sources at the Premier League side, have no interest in Cádiz’s star man, and never have.

Buying a player currently in Spain’s second tier doesn’t seem to be on Middlesbrough’s agenda for the January transfer window, even if the club, through their Spanish links, will have an idea of who García is.

After 17 appearances in all competitions, Álvaro García has scored one goal and picked up four assists following his free transfer move from Granada back in July.
