Chelsea scouts attended the Ligue 1 match between Angers and Marseille at the Stade Jean-Bouin on Sunday, reports French newspaper La Provence (via Foot Marseille).
La Provence say another English club also had representatives present, but they couldn’t confirm who it was. Chelsea signed Michy Batshuayi from Marseille last summer, but La Provence don’t mention who they may be monitoring now.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Newcastle United star Florian Thauvin, who is on loan at Marseille, scoring the opening goal, before Pierrick Capelle scored the equaliser for Angers in stoppage time.
None of the players in either team have been linked to Chelsea recently, and it’s a little difficult to say who Chelsea may be watching. There’s every chance another player caught Chelsea’s eye when they were scouting Batshuayi, but given Marseille again sold a big chunk of players over the summer it would be hard to pinpoint him.
Chelsea’s Michael Emenalo is in charge of identifying future targets for the club, and was very important in the Batshuayi chase and ultimate transfer. He’s already looking ahead to future windows.
